Fortnitemares is returning once again for October 2021, and there will be plenty of spooky skins, Halloween-themed maps, and a very special Shortnitemares film festival to enjoy!
With Fortnite now in its eighth season since Chapter 2 was released, there’s been a ton of new content and lore for players to dive into. From the mysterious Cube takeover of the Fortnite map to the new Battle Pass and Sideways weapons, fans of the battle royale are being kept busy.
Speaking of being busy, we’re once again nearing the time of the year that Epic Games usually rolls out its spooky Halloween events… yes, it’s time for Fortnitemares 2021! Here’s everything you need to know about the highly-anticipated event this year.

One of the biggest events of the year for battle royale fans is Fortnitemares.Fortnitemares 2021 start date & end date
The Fortnitemares 2021 celebrations begins on October 5, 2021, and will run until November 1, 2021. This means there’s almost a whole month of spooky celebrations for horror-lovers to enjoy!
Epic have teased that each week will feature its own special Fortnitemares features, and there will be new and returning Halloween-themed skins in the Item Shop every day.
Fortnitemares 2021 new skins
There are plenty of Halloween skins to look forward to.Fortnitemares 2021 introduces the Universal Monsters Set of skins, which kicks off with Frankenstein’s Monster in the Item Shop on October 5, 2021. He will be joined by The Mummy later in the month.
Epic are teasing plenty more skins with the help of fortune cards, which will be turned over throughout the Fortnitemares event. These skins will be a mix of new arrivals and spooky twists on classic Fortnite outfits.
Rick Grimes marks the third Walking Dead character in Fortnite.After plenty of speculation, Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead was made official on October 9. The popular character joined Epic’s battle royale with his own skin, pickaxe, and back bling.
Shortnitemares film festival details
Shortnitemares is the latest Short Nite film festival, with a spooky twist.To coincide with Fortnitemares 2021, Epic have announced their third Short Nite film festival, which is called Shortnitemares. It will feature several animated shorts based on the “ghoulish and sinister”.
Unlike previous Short Nite festivals, Shortnitemares will take place in a creator-made movie theater where each short animation will have its own theater room, so you can watch them in any order you want.
There’s no information on a date or time yet, but it should take place during Week 4 of Forntitemares (October 26 – November 1). We’ll keep you updated once an official date gets announced.
New games modes

As notable leaker HYPEX tweeted, some of the files that were uncovered point to some new gameplay mechanics that Epic is working on that could be coming with the release of Fortnitemares 2021.
In previous years Fortnite has added specific game modes centered around Fortnitemares which have involved players turning into ghosts to try and capture players around the map. So, this could come back this year, but once again, we’ll have to wait and see.
