Call of Duty League 2022 power rankings after Major 3

November 2022 · 6 minute read

Major 3 brought another new championship winner to the Call of Duty League, with Seattle Surge beating Atlanta FaZe 5-3 in a close-cut grand final very few could have predicted. As such, our CDL power rankings have seen some big changes. Here’s how they look now.

Major 3 was the penultimate Major LAN of the 2022 CDL season, with just four more weeks of regular season play left before the Call of Duty Championship, which is still yet to be announced.

While the likes of Seattle and hometown team Toronto Ultra excelled in the Six, other rising teams such as Minnesota RØKKR and New York Subliners failed to capitalize on their building momentum.

Here are our updated rankings.

CDL power rankings

12. Paris Legion (-)

Paris Legion may have clocked some map wins, but they’re still floundering.

Paris Legion have remained rooted at the bottom of our power rankings for some time now, despite the obvious improvements they’ve made over time.

Unfortunately, while they look better, they continue to be seemingly unable to earn any series wins. They’re a lot closer to the pack now than they were in Major 1, for example, but the season is just too far gone for them.

11. LA Guerrillas (-1)

LA Guerrillas absolutely flew at Major 2 — but haven’t looked the same since.

The Guerrillas’ Major 2 victory really was just a flash in the pan, stroke of luck, fluke — no matter which way you look at it.

They captured a storm in a teacup but since then have been spiraling downwards, right back to where they started before — struggling alongside the lowest-ranked teams. Can they work their way back up throughout Major 4?

10. Boston Breach (-1)

Boston Breach have fallen off since their peak.

Boston are another team that have sunk from being seen as dark-horse contenders, to struggling to even string together a Hardpoint rotation.

While players like Methodz and Capsidal have statistically been very been statistically been verystatistically very strong at certain points in the season, they’ve failed to ever capitalize, and are now sifting ever closer to the bottom of the pack. Their 3-0 loss to RØKKR at the Major was no surprise.

9. London Royal Ravens (+2)

London started strong but have struggled ever since Major 2.

Losing Gismo, who was at one point one of the most exciting rookies in the game, has been monumental to the Ravens.

They exceeded expectations by beating the New York Subliners at the Major, who were desperate for a solid showing — but it’s not quite enough to kick ahead of Crimsix’s side in our rankings.

8. New York Subliners (-4)

New York Subliners won the Pro-Am, but fell massively flat at Major 3.

Speaking of the Subliners, their drop-off between the online qualifiers and the Toronto LAN was truly extraordinary. They needed to come out strong at the Major, and while it was a tight affair against Seattle Surge, they will no doubt be furious at their loss to London.

They stay ahead due only to their far more impressive gameplay over the previous weeks, and they’ll be a team to keep a close eye on in Major 4.

7. Minnesota RØKKR (-5)

RØKKR had a flawless Major 3 qualifier run but that didn’t translate to LAN.

RØKKR had a flawless run in the Major 3 qualifiers but fell flat on LAN with their only victory coming in Losers Round 1, over a despondent Boston Breach.

WIth so many teams fighting for spots at the top of the rankings, RØKKR were heavy favorites to feature among the top two or three, but instead, they fell off the wagon completely.

6. Florida Mutineers (+1)

Skyz and the Mutineers have failed to live up to their potential — but have definitely notched some big wins under their belts.

For almost three years now Florida have been a middling team that, at worst, look completely lost on the map, and at best, have upset potential against top teams.

That couldn’t have rung more true at Major 3. They won their round 1 matchup against OpTic Texas, the only team to record multiple victories against them this season, before successive losses to Seattle Surge and Toronto Ultra, barely even putting up a fight.

5. LA Thieves (+3)

LA Thieves have had some shining moments, and top 4 at Major 3 is definitely a season highlight so far..

LA Thieves definitely seem like a team that perform far better on LAN than online, earning victories over RØKKR and OpTic in their Major 3 run.

They finished 4th, their best Major placement to date, pushing themselves up into the top 8 of the standings. There are still improvements to be made, but the Thieves looked like an entirely new team at the Major.

4. Toronto Ultra (+1)

Toronto are on their way back to the top.

Despite starting poorly in the regular season, Toronto Ultra have fought their way back to the top, and legitimately looked like championship contenders in their run at the Major.

They’re starting to look more like the Ultra we remember from the Cold War season, and that could spell disaster for any team hoping to win a chip in the final events of the year.

3. OpTic Texas (-2)

OpTic Texas have fallen short at two consecutive Majors now.

OpTic placed top 6 at Major 3, knocked out in losses to LA Thieves and Florida Mutineers — a far cry from what fans have come to expect throughout the season.

This is the second straight Major where OpTic have seriously underperformed and earned only a top 6 placement, and they’ll want to bring their qualifier form into Major 4 if they want even half a chance of winning a championship.

2. Seattle Surge (+4)

Seattle Surge have had the potential to cause some upsets all season, and after a steady upwards trajectory throughout Major 3 qualifiers, their hard work paid off with victory at the Toronto-hosted tournament.

They beat Atlanta FaZe twice to win the tournament, but they’ll need to stay on top for a little longer to usurp the 2021 world champions.

1. Atlanta FaZe (+2)

The 2021 champions are having to fight harder for wins this season.

Atlanta were almost perfect at Major 3, and throughout the entire season they’ve been a constant in the conversation for championships, and have never really looked like dropping off.

They earn the top spot after earning a runners-up medal at Major 3, but make no mistake, they’ll have to fight hard to hold on to it, and the top 4 have never been closer.
