Warzone Season 4 patch notes: New weapons, Satellite POI, Hijacked Gulag, more

April 2023 · 18 minute read

Warzone Season 4 is finally upon us and we’ve got a full overview of everything included as part of the latest update to the Call of Duty battle royale.

Season 3 has been a huge one for Warzone. It saw several map changes as Verdansk traveled back in time to 1984, as well as a whole bunch of weapon balancing that has left the meta wide open, with plenty of usable guns across the board.

With Season 4 having arrived on Thursday, June 17, another wave of fresh content was introduced. From map changes to even more new weapons, and even a limited-time event kicking things off, here’s a rundown on everything included.

Warzone Season 4 roadmap

The Season 4 roadmap revealed a number of the biggest changes coming to both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. For the battle royale title, that means new weapons, a new-look Gulag based on classic Black Ops 2 map Hijacked and new modes including Payload and Verdansk Resurgence Mini.

Interestingly, as well as new weapons (more on those below) and Operators, the Hand Cannon scorestreak have been added to Warzone.

New weapons

Multiple new weapons arrived in Warzone during Season 4. Many of these new additions were made available at launch, though others are set to arrive during the season.

We’ll be sure to have updated guides on the quickest way to unlock the new weapons, as well as the best loadouts for them, as soon as they become available.

New POIs

In the Season 4 trailer, we saw the new Satellite POI, which looks to completely destroy Farmland and give players a little something new.

It was recently leaked that Warzone might be getting a whole new map when CoD 2021 arrives, with a World War 2 theme, so this may be one of the last new POIs added to Warzone as we know it, with Verdansk on its way out.

Mysterious Red Doors in Warzone

As well as a new POI, Warzone also has mysterious Red Doors around the map now.

These Red Doors act as a new fast-travel system in Season 4, allowing players to rapidly move from one location to another.

Red Doors were a key focus in the Black Ops Cold War narrative.

Weapon balancing and bug fixes

As with every update, we also got a litany of new bug fixes and weapon adjustments. From yet another CR-56 AMAX nerf to some considerable SMG buffs, there’s plenty to wrap your head around. Be sure to brush up on the full list of buffs and nerfs in Season 4.

While a good number of changes arrived with the Season 4 patch, Warzone devs also teased a major TTK adjustment coming down the line.

The AMAX was altered as part of the Season 4 update.

Season 4 pre-download & file sizes

The Warzone update was made available to download on Wednesday, June 16 at 9PM PT (12AM ET/5AM BST). Here’s how large the files sizes were depending on your platform:

WEAPONS

In a future patch, we will be making sweeping balance changes to Weapons. Let us take a moment to discuss the philosophy behind that decision. At a high level, Warzone is a game about engagements. The more time we allot to mechanical and strategic expression within engagements, the higher the ‘skill ceiling’ and the longer our personal journey of mastery. We believe the frequency of those engagements and how we navigate them heavily contributes to the overall level of fun. We want to enable more escapes from impossible situations, moments of finesse, epic outplays, and opportunities to flex exquisite marksmanship. Due to some Weapons being far more lethal than others in their class, we feel a reduction in the efficacy of those outliers is necessary. We expect these changes will bring the average Time to Kill up by approximately 60 to 100 milliseconds. These changes will not only increase the overall capacity for skill expression, but should also introduce some Weapons into viability that have not yet had a chance to shine.

We will begin laying the groundwork for the upcoming balance overhaul with the following adjustments:
