Former G2 AD carry Martin ‘Rekkles’ Larsson has left the LEC for French regional team Karmine Corp, ending a period of speculation about the player’s next move.

Rekkles has officially left G2.

Rumors linking the iconic AD carry with a move to Karmine Corp, the regional French org who have won the last two editions of EU Masters, had emerged hours before free agency began.

The move was one of the first transfers confirmed when free agency officially opened at 8 PM ET on November 15.

Karmine Corp has blossomed into a regional powerhouse in 2021. Their résumé includes back-to-back EU Masters titles, the first team to achieve this feat, and a number of players who have joined, or are rumored to be joining, LEC rosters.

Rekkles joined G2 in the 2020 offseason, but the team struggled and ended up missing out on Worlds. Following the conclusion of the season, Carlos announced that the team would be benching Rekkles, as well as Martin ‘Wunder’ Hansen and Mihael ‘Mikyx’ Mehle, as part of a major rebuilding effort for 2022.

While the rumor came as a surprise to many, Karmine Corp announced the transfer minutes after free agency began.

According to Dot Esports’ Pablo Suárez and other sources, Rekkles has signed a two-year contract worth €1 million ($1.13 million).

Fans reacted well to the move, seeing it as a boon for Karmine Corp and ‘justice’ for Rekkles after G2’s previous inability to find a new team for him.
