Bethesda’s upcoming title, Ghostwire: Tokyo is set to be the perfect blend of Japanese folklore and Cyberpunk 2077’s vibrant yet violent vistas.

Set in the moonlight streets of a parallel Tokyo that has been overrun by fearsome spirits and demonic entities, your character is the lone hero that will bring the creature behind these machinations to justice.

Ghostwire Tokyo release date

Ghostwire Tokyo is set to launch on Friday, March 25, Sony announced during a deep dive in early February.

An earlier PlayStation Store listing spotted by MP1st previously outed a March 24, 2022 release date before being removed.

Ghostwire Tokyo platforms

Despite Xbox Game Studios’ acquisition of Bethesda Softworks, Ghostwire Tokyo will remain a Windows and PlayStation exclusive at launch. It will, however, only be available to PlayStation 5 owners.

However, Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, revealed to Bloomberg that the game will be coming to Xbox a year after its release.

As a busy day in Tokyo comes to a close, all of the city’s residents simply vanish in the blink of an eye, leaving one man to take down the perils that haunt this once-proud city.

Oh, and there’s a Shiba Inu, and yes, you can pet them.

Transported to a terrifyingly twisted Tokyo where Yokai stalk the streets, your character is the unfortunate hero in a world dominated by demons. Utilizing a whole host of elemental-inspired skills, you’re tasked with fighting your way through the hordes to meet their mysterious maker.

February 2022 Official Showcase

After a few months of silence, Ghostwire Tokyo returned to the spotlight in a big way with its official February Showcase. This 20-minute demonstration revealed our first look at extended gameplay and outlined a range of combat and traversal mechanics.

March 2022 State of Play Trailer

Ahead of Ghostwire’s launch, Sony included a last peek at the game in its March State of Play to give players a look at the supernatural thriller.

In the Hannya trailer, we see the player character bending nature to his will. Attacking foes head-on using different combinations of elemental spells, these creatures won’t know what hit them.

As you defeat demons, their cores will be revealed. From here, you can perform a series of martial arts-inspired takedowns to rid Tokyo of these pesky Yokai once and for all.

A wide range of devastating abilities are at your fingertips in Ghostwire Tokyo.

The game appears to follow a traditional open-world structure fit with a variety of primary and side objectives.

The vast Tokyo playspace is littered with Tōrō Shrines in need of cleansing. Doing so while taking care of any nearby foes will provide a source of experience and skill points.

Mastering Ghostwire Tokyo is no small feat.

32 abilities in total, all with their own upgrades, feature in Ghostwire Tokyo. Some may improve your mobility while others unlock more powerful attacks.

Furthermore, collecting appears to be a key part of the experience as well, with players having access to a full inventory and equipment management system.

Ghostwire Tokyo visual novel

Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude is a free visual novel that sees players join the mysterious KK and his team of supernatural detectives as they investigate an unusual disappearance. Players can choose different interactions with KK’s associates to piece together their stories in Ghostwire’s unique prequel.

The visual novel will be available to all PS4, PS5, and PC players starting 8th March, 2022. Bethesda has also uploaded a brief teaser trailer that showcases the game’s artstyle and a few characters that will be featured in the story.
